The North Vancouver RCMP are looking for witnesses and dash-cam footage in an effort to further their investigation of a fatal collision involving a cyclist and a commercial vehicle. The collision occurred shortly before 10:30 am on March 6th, 2023 at the intersection of Lonsdale Ave and 23rd St in North Vancouver.
North Vancouver RCMP officers were en route to an unrelated matter when they came upon the collision, where a woman had suffered significant injuries. “Officers immediately applied life saving measures on the cyclist, however, tragically, she was pronounced deceased by medical personnel a short time later,” said Cst. Mansoor Sahak of the North Vancouver RCMP.
The cyclist has been identified as a resident of North Vancouver in her 40’s. Police are in the process of conducting a next of kin notification. The driver of the commercial vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators. The North Vancouver RCMP traffic unit and the Integrated Collision Analyst Reconstruction Service (ICARS) are investigating the incident. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
Anyone who witnessed or has video of the collision is asked to contact the North Vancouver RCMP at 604 985 1311 and quote file 23-4384.

“The driver of the commercial vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.” Remaining on the scene is required by law and doesn’t warrant mention. There’s no need to print this.

“No need to print this.” — ?
I think people are always curious to know whether or not it was a hit-and-run. Just because laws require a person to stick around does not mean that they always do.
What a WEIRD comment.

I know it’s become totally normalized by endless repetition, but what’s *actually* weird is including that information in every police statement. It makes sense for police to note when a driver illegally *flees* the scene – that seems significant and newsworthy – but *staying* at the scene? Why? They’re not including details like whether the driver was licensed, insured, or what they were wearing…

Unfortunately, many times drivers flee the scene so it was just for clarification.
Steve says
Well I disagree. May times with these types of events, the drivers don’t stay at the scene. I see no harm to mention the driver did the right thing.

Was this ‘ commercial vehicle ‘ a dump truck involved in a new development in the Lonsdale corridor?
