Darwin Properties is holding a public information meeting for its Maplewood Gardens project at 2131-21717 Old Dollarton Road.
The developer plans to build more than 500 apartments at the site, which includes 319 apartments for sale, 135 market-rental apartments, and 58 below-market rental apartments in one 12-storey and four six-storey buildings.
The public information meeting will be held at the Kenneth Gordon Scholl Gymnasium on Tuesday, November 12, from 6 pm to 8 pm. The address is 420 Seymour River Place.
The meeting starts at 6 pm, and there will be a presentation at 6:30 pm.
Included in the proposal is 25,000 square foot of industrial space as well as parking for 457 vehicles in an underground parkade. The property is currently occupied by for Maplewood Gardens, a 58 market rental apartment units, and a number of light industrial businesses along Front St.
The project would require rezoning and development permits for creek hazard.
The developer plans to provide public plazas at the northwestern and southwestern corners of the property. Darwin’s latest project falls under the ambit of Maplewood Village Centre, one among the four so-called village centres where DNV council is open to more density.
Roughly 1,500 new residential units along with 100,000 square feet of new commercial space are envisioned by 2030.
Citing density, parking and congestion, the council recently rejected in July a massive housing proposal by Darwin to build more than 900 apartments at 1325 East Keith Road, the existing location of the North Shore Winter Club.
