District of North Vancouver council approves 95-unit rental building

September 21, 2022 4:10pm

District of North Vancouver council unanimously approved a 95-unit, six-storey rental building at 1565- 1589 Rupert Street.

The proponent will now redevelop five existing single-family residential lots as a six-storey 95-unit rental housing development.

The project includes 19 non-market rental units and 76 market rental units, all secured in perpetuity. The gross floor area is approximately 71,063 square feet. The building is approximately 72 feet in height, which complies with the maximum height in the zone. The project will provide the District a five-metre-wide portion of land along the west side of the site and approximately $210,000 in construction costs towards the “Green Spine” linear park.

The project has a ground floor amenity room which includes a lounge/meeting space and kitchen and washroom facilities which leads out to 2,621 square feet outdoor amenity area along the south edge of the property, with direct access to the “Green Spine” to the west.

The development site is approximately 24,670 square feet in size and comprises five single-family residential lots. The site is located at the southwest corner of Rupert and Orwell streets, east of Mountain Highway. The Lynn Creek Plan also anticipates a future neighbourhood park to the southwest of the site on the north side of Bond Street.
