District of North Vancouver is planning to rezone a district-owned site next to the undeveloped Maplewood Park, near Old Dollarton Rd and Riverside Drive, for social housing.
DNV plans to rezone it to have it considered for an affordable housing development grant with Metro Vancouver Housing.
The site is undeveloped and consists primarily of second growth forest.
Surrounding properties include single-family homes to the south, an undeveloped District road allowance to the north beyond which is Maplewood Park, undeveloped District lands to the east, and low-rise apartments across Riverside Drive to the west.
If the site is selected by Metro Vancouver, any development would include approximately 60-90 rental homes, though a specific number would be determined through a land lease and development permit process.
The application will be presented to Council on November 1, with the recommendation that it receive first reading and be referred to a public hearing.
At Council’s direction, staff reviewed ten District owned sites to assess their suitability for affordable rental housing, which would be developed through a partnership with Metro Vancouver Housing.
In a meeting on Sept 27, DNV council directed staff to proceed with a rezoning process for the Riverside site, which is one of the ten identified sites.
Mountain Highway and Hunter Street, Burr Place, Lillooet Road east and west, St. Denis Avenue, and four other sites on Maplewood and Old Dollarton Road are also under consideration.
