The District of North Vancouver is reminding residents to be cautious with food and give bears plenty of space as bear activity increases in Lynn Canyon and around the District.
According to the social media post by the District of North Vancouver, bears continue to forage for food, and people heading into District parks and trails are advised to avoid bringing unnecessary food or planning picnics in forested areas.
Bears have an “incredible sense of smell,” and even small food attractants can increase the risk of human-bear interactions, according to the news release. The District is reminding park users to pack out everything they bring in, including food scraps and wrappers, never feed wildlife, and give bears plenty of space.
The District pointed out that being extra vigilant with food in parks can help keep wildlife wild and reduce the risk of human-bear conflicts.
