District of North Vancouver council will decide on giving rezoning approval for Muse, a cannabis store proposed in Dollarton Village.
The proposed cannabis retail store is to be located in a ground floor retail space in an existing two-storey building located at the south end of the Dollarton Village.
The site permits cannabis retatil store use, and the bylaw proposed to add 385 North Dollarton Highway to the list of properties that are permitted to have one cannabis retail store.
According to a staff report, the proposed retail location is accessed from North Dollarton Highway via a driveway providing access to the parking lot at the south (rear) of the building.
District received over 500 letters from residents in the area, of which 331 were opposed to the proposal, while 249 submissions were in support.
The proximity to Sherwood Park Elementary School and the surrounding single-family neighbourhood was a key concern raised by residents.
The proximity of a cannabis store to the liquor store within the north part of the mall, potential for odour, noise and loitering were also some concerns raised by the community.
However, the proposed store also received positive comments, with some saying the store would work well in the existing mall and it was proposing a separate storefront.
In January, when the store was first proposed, DNV staff had advised the council should reject this application.
