Improvements include trail and step repairs in areas with heavy erosion, as well as trailhead amenities like new seating, a stretching area, and a water fountain. In a statement, Metro Vancouver said the Grouse Grind Trail must be closed during the improvement project because the terrain is steep and hazardous where the work is taking place. It will reopen when work is completed and trail conditions are safe for users.
Meantime, visitors are urged to stay off the trail while it’s closed — ignoring the closure may result in serious injury and delays to the eventual reopening. Access to the BCMC Route and the Baden-Powell Trail will be available through a secondary trailhead 250 metres east via the parking lot. The BCMC Route is similar to the Grouse Grind Trail in length and elevation, however it’s more rugged.
For anyone choosing to hike the BCMC Route, it’s strongly recommended they wear hiking shoes with good ankle support, carry water and a snack, and bring an extra layer for warmth, Metro Vancouver says.
