Lollypop Childcare Inc. has proposed increasing its childcare capacity from eight children to 20, with 12 spots designated for children under 36 months and eight for children between 30 months and school age. The District of North Vancouver will vote on allowing the increase at a council meeting tonight.
Lollypop Childcare has been operating on the lower floor of the applicant’s home at 4990 Cedarcrest Avenue since January 2021.
Currently, nine children are on the Lollypop Childcare waitlist, with frequent inquiries about availability. Meanwhile, the District of North Vancouver staff supported this proposal.
A District of North Vancouver council report notes that it supports this proposal as it is ‘located in an under-served area, the subject site has satisfactory parking options, the visual character of the home and front yard landscaping is compatible with the predominantly single-family streetscape, and the facility’s design meets provincial licensing requirements.”
Under the provisions of the Child Care Facilities Business Regulation Bylaw, an increase in capacity to between 11 and 20 children requires a public meeting. Lollypop Childcare operates Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and these hours would remain unchanged with the proposed increase to 20 children.
Besides Lollypop Childcare, two other childcare facilities are located in the Cleveland neighborhood: Honey Bunny Daycare with 8 spots for multi-age childcare and Montroyal Learning Academy and Child Care Centre with 7 spots for multi-age childcare.
