Gym in West Van rec centre to be used as COVID vaccination site

Staff report
March 8, 2021 10:10am

VCH will open a Covid-19 vaccination site in the large gymnasium at the West Vancouver Community Centre, located at 2121 Marine Drive.

The gymnasium will be closed to recreation programs starting Friday, March 12.

Program participants who are affected by the change will be notified by telephone.

Booking a vaccination is done through the province’s vaccine call centre, and when an appointment is made, the location of the vaccination site will be provided.

“This is wonderful news for the North Shore,” says Mayor Mary-Ann Booth.

“We are very happy to work with VCH to locate this site in our community centre. We know it will be a short-term inconvenience to the gymnasium’s users, but the importance of supporting vaccinations for all British Columbians cannot be overstated as we fight this unrelenting  global coronavirus pandemic together.”

Appointments must be booked with the provincial government and when you can call is based on age:

  • From March 15: Seniors over the age of 85 (those born in or before 1936)
  • From March 22: Seniors 80 and older (those born in or before 1941)

The phone numbers are listed on the provincial government’s website. Phones lines are open 7 a.m.–7 p.m.

If a senior cannot call to book themselves, a family member, friend or support person can do so on their behalf.

The location of the immunization clinic will be confirmed on the call, with vaccinations starting as early as March 16 at the West Vancouver location.
