Jim Hanson has announced his intention to seek a fourth term on North Vancouver District Council in the Oct. 17 election.
In a video posted on his website, Hanson announced his campaign. He said North Vancouver District is a beautiful place and pointed to its ranking as Canada’s most livable community by the Globe and Mail for the past two years.
Hanson said the district faces challenges including traffic congestion, high rents and property taxes that have increased faster than inflation. He also criticized the North Shore wastewater treatment plant, saying it will take tens of thousands of dollars from the budgets of every North Vancouver household.
Hanson said he plans to advocate for road and transit improvements, including a third eastbound lane on the Cut. He also said he would only approve development that creates “real affordable housing” for North Vancouver residents. Similarly, he also committed to voting for tax rates that are in line with inflation.
On the wastewater treatment plant, Hanson said he would advocate for “real reform” and “significant reform” at Metro Vancouver.
“I would like to meet as many of you as possible,” Hanson said, asking residents to share what they believe can be done to make the community better. Hanson concluded his announcement by asking voters for their support on Oct. 17.
