District of North Vancouver is seeking public feedback on housing diversity in single-family neighbourhoods.
“We are working to maintain a healthy, inclusive, and vibrant community by providing more housing options for everyone,” says DNV.
This includes adding more diverse housing choices in single family neighbourhoods that fit the needs of residents of all ages, incomes, abilities and household sizes. DNV is exploring more options for secondary suites, short-term rentals, and infill housing.
Residents can provide feedback through the online survey, which is open until June 19, 2022. DNV is also hosting an in-person open house, virtual open house and pop-up events to gather your feedback.
The in-person open house will be held on Wednesday, June 8 from 3 to 8 pm (in-person only, drop-in at any point during the open house), at the Lynn Valley Community Room, 1277 Lynn Valley Road.
Attend the virtual open houses
Short-term rentals: Thursday, June 9, 6:30pm-8pm
Secondary suites: Tuesday, June 14, 12pm-1:30pm
Infill housing: Tuesday, June 14, 6:30pm-8pm
District staff will also be popping up around the community during the engagement period to chat and provide information. A report to council will be presented after the public feedback.
Please..not another survey. Secondary suites have been in the DNV for 40 years. The DNV developed extremely onerous and limiting regs for Coach Houses. Short term rentals a different need. The DNV has the most restrictive land use regulations in all of Metro area, unless you talk of huge high rises by busy highways or shopping centres. The result? People tear down houses and build bigger ones, because mostly, that’s all that is permitted, that only a few can afford. Smaller, self owned houses which can sit on smaller plots of land can be built, for younger people to buy. Council has said no to this for years.
