District of North Vancouver is holding public information meeting for two projects that will bring 179 rental units to Lynn Valley and Mountain Highway.
A virtual early input meeting is underway for a 89-unit market rental apartment project at 1578-1590 Hunter Street in Lynn Valley by Lotus Development. 10 per cent of the units are non-market rentals in this six-storey building. There will be parking available for 52 vehicles and 150 bicycles storage spaces are provided. The applicant is hosting a virtual early input opportunity until October 2, which is a chance to learn more about the application, and share thoughts about the project.
The site is located on the northeast corner of Hunter Street and occupied by four single family homes. To the east is Orwell Street and beyond that is single family homes on Squamish Nation land. To the south is Hunter Street with single family homes beyond.
The proposal includes a portion of the unopened District lane to the north of the site which will be sold to the developer if the project proceeds.
Redic Developments has also applied to develop the site at 1504-1520 Rupert Street to bring 90 rental apartments in a six-storey building. There will be parking for 50 vehicles in an underground parkade. Of these, nine spaces are for visitors. The applicant is holding an in-person and a virtual meeting for this development.
The applicant will be hosting an in-person public information meeting, which will take place from 5 pm to 7 pm at the North Shore Winter Club, located at 1325 East Keith Road. From September 25 to October 9, the applicant is also holding a virtual information meeting.
Oh nooooo… I’m so disappointed with the ongoinng destruction of the North Shore.
Our federal government is bringing in more than 1 million people into Canada a year. These projects are only a Band-Aid. Far more construction will be required. Like it or not, unless they reduce the amount of people coming into this country, or the new comers go to other places in more remote parts of the country- and don’t hold your breath for that to happen- the North Shore will be under pressure to build more housing.
Note: These projects do not appear to be proposed for Lynn Valley. They would be located south of Lynn Valley in Lynnmour.
Both these locations project less than 1 parking stall per unit. In practice what that means is the deficit will be made up by residents parking on the street.
To me that makes both developments problematic – and yes I do know where both are located in relation to Phibbs exchange.
Lyle – I just got a quote to bring our gently used car up to snuff for winter. Honest mechanic. Work that needs to be done. Over $4,000. That, my friend, is over expensive 150 Uber rides, or 872 2-sone transit rides, or a really nice e-bike each year. We don’t all need cars and many people near options can, and will, avoid car ownership for good reason.
Interesting how we are going to manage the traffic situation around Phibs. Will it be out of control like Capilano & Marine where soon residents have to line up to get out of their parking garages?
