The Vancouver Park Board has announced that Kitsilano Outdoor Pool will not open this summer. The decision comes after ongoing efforts to repair the pool were found insufficient to ensure safe operation.
Despite repairs during the off-season, the pool continues to suffer significant water loss, complicating the balance of necessary pool chemicals. Vancouver Coastal Health has declared the pool unsafe to operate in its current condition, the Vancouver Park Board said in a press release.
The closure will allow for a thorough investigation into the water loss and essential repairs to the pool’s underground piping and basin. A custom liner will also be installed to prolong the pool’s service life. Kitsilano Pool, constructed over 50 years ago, has numerous failing and deteriorating components, prompting extensive renovations.
In light of the closure, the Vancouver Park Board will extend the operating hours at Second Beach Pool to accommodate the community’s needs. The new schedule will take effect on June 12th, with details available on the Park Board’s website.
