City of North Vancouver has installed LED lights along the Grand Boulevard Park, from East 19th Street at the north end to East Keith Road at the south end.
CNV says the light fixtures were carefully chosen to compliment the historic character of the park and the neighbourhood, while providing sufficient light without causing “light pollution”.
Mayor Linda Buchanan said the lighting along the path will enhance the public space for the community and allow for greater use.
She said now more than ever, the local parks and paths need to be accessible and safe, irrespective of the weather.
“This fall I received a letter from a Grade 7 girl named Avery who shared with me that lighting along this path was needed, and that it would make her feel safer on evening walks with her family. I’m always glad when youth in our community reach out to share how these investments support them as well,” the mayor said.
Supporting the walkability of neighbourhoods is key as the city works towards the goal of becoming the ‘Healthiest Small City in the World,” she added.
