Liberals sweep North Shore ridings with decisive re-election victories

Staff report
April 29, 2025 8:00am

The Liberal Party has retained its hold across the North Shore, with incumbents winning re-election in all three key federal ridings: North Vancouver–Capilano, Burnaby North–Seymour, and West Vancouver–Sunshine Coast–Sea to Sky Country.

In North Vancouver–Capilano, Jonathan Wilkinson secured a third term with a strong 59.6 per cent of the vote. Wilkinson, who has served as minister of natural resources and environment in previous cabinets, finished well ahead of Conservative challenger Stephen Curran, who received 33.9 per cent. The NDP, Green, People’s Party and an independent candidate shared the remainder of the vote.

To the east, in Burnaby North–Seymour, fellow Liberal incumbent Terry Beech was also re-elected with a commanding lead. Beech captured 58.7 per cent, defeating Conservative Mauro Francis, who earned 34.2 per cent. NDP candidate Michael Charrois finished third with 6.5 per cent.

On the western end of the North Shore, Patrick Weiler retained his seat in West Vancouver–Sunshine Coast–Sea to Sky Country with 59.7 per cent, comfortably ahead of Conservative Keith Roy, who received 33 per cent. The Green Party, NDP, People’s Party, and Rhinoceros Party rounded out the race with single-digit support.

All three ridings saw the Liberals strengthen their margins compared to previous elections, suggesting continued support for the party across coastal and suburban parts of the Lower Mainland. While full turnout data has not yet been released, early numbers suggest stable participation across the region.

The results reaffirm the Liberals’ strong presence across the North Shore and indicate limited traction for opposition parties in these BC ridings, despite national-level shifts.
