On Sunday, May 1, from 1:00 to 2:00, a community vigil will be held to bear witness to the suffering arising from the war in Ukraine. The event is hosted by Lynn Valley United Church and takes place at the church, 3201 Mountain Highway, North Vancouver.
War-torn Ukraine is far from peaceful Lynn Valley, but 90% of conversations over coffee at Delaney’s, lunch at Brown’s, or in other gathering places in Lynn Valley, are consumed with events in Ukraine.
Rev. Franklyn James, Coordinating Minister at LVUC says, “War does not discriminate between guilty and non-guilty; all suffer. We decided to offer the community a place to bring their sorrow and their anger together, and to offer their prayers and hopes for those suffering as a result of the war in Ukraine. This includes not only Ukrainian civilians and soldiers, but also many Russians who have been misled by their government and who have family members who have been injured or killed. We pray for them all. “
Other Lynn Valley churches and government representatives have been invited to participate. There will be activities for young children and all are welcome at the event.
Lynn Valley United Church is an affirming congregation of the United Church of Canada and is located at 3201 Mountain Highway, North Vancouver, BC, www.lynnvalleychurch.com.
