A 50-year-old man faces multiple charges following four alleged unprovoked assaults that took place within 30 minutes in downtown Vancouver on Saturday.

According to the news release by VPD, the suspect entered a business at Homer and Dunsmuir Street shortly after 2:40 p.m. and demanded money from workers and customers before allegedly throwing an object that struck two employees, causing minor injuries.

Investigators believe the same man then approached a person on Beatty Street and asked for money. When the victim refused, the suspect allegedly punched him in the face and fled. About 10 minutes later, near Cambie and Cordova Street, another victim was allegedly punched in the face without any exchange of words.

“These incidents are particularly concerning because they appear to have been completely unprovoked, and none of the victims had any prior interaction with the suspect,” said Constable Megan Lui. She said officers identified, located and arrested a suspect matching witness descriptions through video canvassing and proactive patrols in the area.

According to the news release, police believe there may be additional victims and are asking anyone affected by or who witnessed the incidents to contact the Vancouver Police Department.

Marc Ledoux, 50, has been charged with two counts of assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, one count of uttering threats, and one count of mischief. Ledoux remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
