A man is dead, and another is in custody following an early-morning altercation in the Squamish Nation village of X̱wemelch’stn, West Vancouver police say.

West Vancouver Police Department (WVPD) officers were called to a residence in the community shortly after midnight on June 24 in response to a reported disturbance. Despite efforts by first responders, one adult man died of his injuries at the scene.

A second adult man was subsequently arrested by the Vancouver Police Department in connection with the incident. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken charge of the investigation. Police say there is no ongoing risk to public safety.
