A man has died following an incident involving North Vancouver RCMP that is now under investigation by the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC).
According to the police post on X, North Vancouver RCMP responded at approximately 1:12 p.m. on July 21, 2026, to reports of a man armed with an edged weapon threatening members of the public inside a business at Westview Plaza, in the 2600-block of Westview Drive.
The suspect left the business, got into a vehicle in the parking lot, and collided with multiple parked vehicles, according to the social media post. He then exited the vehicle at the plaza’s gas station, where multiple police resources responded and interacted with him.
According to the post, the suspect entered the driver’s seat of an unoccupied police vehicle, and during the ensuing interaction with responding officers, a conducted energy weapon was deployed, and shots were fired by police.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. No responding officers sustained physical injuries.
The IIO BC has been notified and is attending the scene to investigate police actions related to the incident. The surrounding area has been cordoned off to support the investigation. As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police. All aspects and circumstances of the incident will be subject to an independent investigation by the IIO BC.
