A man is in custody after climbing onto a police vehicle and repeatedly punching and kicking its windshield during an incident at Lonsdale Quay, according to the news release by North Vancouver RCMP.
According to the news release, North Vancouver RCMP received a call for assistance from BC Emergency Health Services on August 10, 2026, regarding an aggressive patient following a medical call at Lonsdale Quay. Shortly after 8 p.m., the first officer arrived on scene, and the man who was the subject of the medical call climbed onto the hood of the police vehicle and began punching and kicking the windshield, causing significant damage.
More officers arrived and took the man into custody. He was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries sustained while attempting to break the windshield, and the officer was also taken to hospital as a precaution after being exposed to debris from the shattered windshield, according to the news release. The suspect, who is known to police, is facing several charges related to the damaged vehicle.
“This was a dynamic and frightening situation for many bystanders who witnessed the incident in a very populated area,” said Corporal Mansoor Sahak, Media Relations Officer for the North Vancouver RCMP. “We are extremely grateful that no one was seriously injured as a result of this incident.”
