West Vancouver Police are investigating a dramatic theft involving a masked man who reportedly stole between 60 and 70 items from an activewear retailer in the Marine Drive/Taylor Way area. The incident, reported late, highlights a troubling pattern of shoplifting in the area, with several high-value thefts reported recently. In another case, a suspect was caught stealing vests from the same retailer. Police tracked the individual to downtown Vancouver, where he was arrested without incident while in a taxi. All stolen vests were recovered.
Other Thefts Reported
A spate of thefts from vehicles has also been reported across various neighborhoods in West Vancouver. Incidents include smashed windows and unlocked cars being targeted:
At the Community Centre area, jewelry and gas station gift cards were taken. In Eagle Harbor, an unlocked car yielded registration documents, keys, and other items to the thief. Personal accessories, Christmas decorations, and cash were stolen in separate incidents in the Marine Drive/Taylor Way and Cedardale areas. In Chippendale, sunglasses, personal electronics, and cash were stolen.
A cargo trailer in Horseshoe Bay lost its rear license plate. In Caulfeild, a wallet with ID and bank cards was taken from an unlocked vehicle.
Mischief in Cedardale:
A vehicle owner in Cedardale discovered an unknown man sleeping in his car. The suspect, who had broken a window to gain access, was arrested without incident after being identified by police.
Assault Reported in Horseshoe Bay
Police also responded to an assault in Horseshoe Bay, where an unknown male struck a victim in the face inside a public restroom. The suspect fled the scene but was later located and arrested without incident. The motive for the assault remains unclear.
Break-and-Enters in Dundarave and Community Centre Areas
Several break-and-enter incidents were reported in multi-unit residential buildings in the Dundarave and Community Centre areas, particularly involving residents returning home after trips away.
In Dundarave, one unit had its deadbolt forced, while others showed no sign of forced entry but had been thoroughly ransacked. In the Community Centre area, a personal safe containing jewelry and currency was targeted.
