Metro Vancouver Housing is planning to develop a new family-oriented, non-market rental housing project for families, seniors, and people with disabilities on a site that is owned by the District of North Vancouver.
The site was a strong fit for Metro Vancouver Housing because the District of North Vancouver has rezoned the site to make it development ready. As the project progresses, Metro Vancouver will engage with the community,” Metro Vancouver said.
The site in the District of North Vancouver is located at Riverside Drive along Old Dollarton Road, close to the many amenities in the growing Maplewood Village area. It was selected through a competitive process in which other muncipalities put forward municipally-owned land to be used for affordable housing.
“The development of affordable housing for families, seniors, and vulnerable members of our community continues to be a top priority,” said Mike Little, Mayor of the District of North Vancouver. “This project in collaboration with Metro Vancouver will be a key step in our ongoing efforts to meet the housing needs of our region.”
“We look forward to working with the District of North Vancouver to help develop more affordable housing in the region,” said Brenda Locke, Chair of the Metro Vancouver Housing Committee. “We will be delivering approximately 2,000 new affordable rental homes across the region over the next 10 years, and it is because of important partnerships like this that we are able to make progress on addressing the shortage of affordable housing in our region.”
The first phase of development outlined in the Metro Vancouver Housing 10-Year Plan will see 800 new affordable rental homes built in seven projects across the region. Other municipalities that have contributed land to Metro Vancouver Housing to help meet affordable housing goals include Pitt Meadows and Burnaby.
