According to the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Act, excessive speeding is a serious offence—fines for driving over the speed limit range from $138 to $483 and above. Additionally, the driver may receive penalty points and face a possible license suspension.
The North Vancouver RCMP has urged drivers to drive safely and responsibly. The police department has also reminded drivers that speeding is a leading cause of car accidents, and drivers should slow down to prevent accidents. Last month, an impaired driver in North Vancouver was caught hurtling down the road at an astonishing 174 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. Police stopped the drunk driver of the Acura car on March 8 when officers were doing speed enforcement near the Lloyd Avenue exit.

Any driver travelling at such a reckless speed, should suffer more serious *financial* consequences. Further, being deprived of a car for a mere 7 days, is not severe enough. That is just a mere inconvenience.
In the case of a “N”, New driver, or an “L”, Learner licence driver, there should be a mandatory Driver Training Course and a retaking of the written Driving Test and actual physical Driver Test.
