The new artificial turf field at École Handsworth Secondary is officially open, providing a new year-round space for students and the community.
According to the social media post by the District of North Vancouver, Mayor Mike Little, members of Council, and the North Vancouver School District Board of Trustees attended an event marking the completion of the field on Aug. 25.
The new field will accommodate soccer, rugby, field hockey and football. The project also includes lighting, benches and fencing.
According to the post, public washrooms are expected to be completed in 2027. The washrooms will be available outside of school hours and operate separately from school facilities. Temporary accessible public washrooms will be available until the permanent facilities are completed.
The artificial turf field project was approved by District of North Vancouver Council in January 2025 as part of the 2025-2029 financial plan. Construction began in fall 2025, with the field completed ahead of the anticipated late-2026 timeline.
