New Mountain Highway Overpass opens today

April 5, 2019 10:49am

The new Mountain Highway Overpass is officially opening today, Friday, April 5.

The Mountain Highway traffic will move to a new alignment and over the new Highway overpass, which is located two kilometres north of the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge.

This realignment will provide a third continuous municipal connection across Highway 1, in addition to the Main Street/Dollarton Highway and the Keith Road/Mount Seymour Parkway connections.

The Exit 21 westbound Mountain Highway off-ramp will remain operational during this transition. Northbound access will be via Brooksbank Avenue, while Lynmouth Avenue is local access only.

The Highway overpass is part of the Lower Lynn Improvement project, a$198 million project that aims to address safety, queuing and delays and help improve travel times along Highway 1 and the Lower Lynn Interchanges.

Other projects include Keith Road/Seymour Parkway Interchange, and Lynn Creek Connectivity Improvement project. Both are expected to be complete by Fall 2021.

It is now open and traffic is a mess ! South bound backups have reached as far as Kirkstone Road. Main problem seems to be City of NV controlled traffic lights at the Keith Brooksbank intersection – not nearly enough time for left hand turns onto eastbound Keith. The District of NV and BC Ministry of Highways have paid for most of this project – Can’t City of NV get their little bit right?

PS – further evidence that City and District should amalgamate ASAP.
