Metro Vancouver Regional District has issued a Yellow Air Quality Warning for the region, including North Vancouver and West Vancouver, due to elevated fine particulate matter from wildfire smoke.
According to the news release from Metro Vancouver Regional District, the warning will remain in effect until there is a change in weather. The smoke is coming from wildfires burning across British Columbia, including in the South Cariboo, the Southern Interior, and a complex of fires near Boston Bar. Smoke levels can shift quickly depending on weather and fire behaviour.
While smoke can affect anyone, the release states that older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, and those with asthma, COPD, heart disease or other chronic conditions face the greatest health risks, along with people who work or exercise outdoors.
Residents are urged to monitor the Air Quality Health Index throughout the day, as conditions can change quickly, and can sign up for alerts through Metro Vancouver.
