A North Vancouver elementary school was placed on a brief lockdown Tuesday morning as police responded to reports of a distraught individual with a weapon in the Blueridge neighbourhood. One person has been arrested.
“We responded to reports of a distraught person with a weapon in the Blueridge neighbourhood. A nearby school was put on hold and secured for a brief time,” said Const. Sahak. According to RCMP, officers were called to the area before the start of the school day. As a precaution, students and staff at Seymour Heights Elementary were kept inside, and children from a nearby daycare were moved into the library.
Police say the situation began at a home in the area and extended into the neighbourhood. The suspect was taken into custody around 9 a.m., and no injuries were reported. There is no ongoing risk to the public.
