A novice driver was stopped and penalized after leading officers on a brief highway pursuit following speeds more than double the posted limit, according to a social media post from North Vancouver RCMP.
Officers first tried to pull over a BMW on Highway 1 after the driver was clocked at 181 km/h in an 80 km/h zone, but the driver fled.

Officers later spotted the same BMW travelling at excessive speeds in the opposite direction on the same highway. During the second encounter, police safely intercepted the vehicle. The driver, who holds a novice licence, was issued fines totalling nearly $1,000 and had their vehicle impounded, according to the social media post.

I bet the bank of mummy and daddy, take care of everything. There really needs to be some personal accountability.
He should also be deported back his home country with his parents.
Should be fined $10,000 rather than $1,000.
Let’s extend the driver some grace and dignity. They, like many of our youth, are navigating intense societal pressures, which is a dangerous combination when you mix cars, adrenaline, and poor impulse control (common in developing brains). Let’s also remember the root cause – HIGHWAYS that induce traffic and temptation for high speed risk taking. These incidents don’t happen in places like Amsterdam or Copenhagen, places without highways. Let’s use this incident as inspiration to work toward people-first mobility – busses, protected cycling and pedestrian corridors and realize a bold and exciting, car-free, highway-free, future.
