Employees of the North Vancouver Recreation Commission will be placed on an unpaid leave of absence if they don’t have a legitimate reason to not get vaccinated by March 31.
Heather Turner, the director of the North Vancouver Recreation, told local media the employees who work for the NVRC must get double vaccinated by March 31 if they wish to keep working.
There are 650 people who work in different capacities at 10 community recreation centres, the North Vancouver Tennis Centre, and the Centennial Theatre.
NVRC is hoping the directive to get double vaccinated doesn’t lead to unfilled positions at the commission. Turner said the commission will encourage employees and provide them the right resources for any information that may need.
Meanwhile, as of January 20, NVRC will begin opening fitness centres at select locations and more locations opening by January 24. Fitness centres are reopening but advance booking is required due to capacity limits.
A selection of fitness classes and registered fitness and dance programs are also resuming from January 20 in North Vancouver facilities. However, physical distancing will be in place and activities and masks are required, except when engaged in physical exercise. Proof of vaccination is also required.
