A TransLink bus driver was taken to hospital Tuesday morning after experiencing a medical emergency that caused the bus to strike several parked vehicles and a tree in North Vancouver, RCMP say.
North Vancouver RCMP received multiple reports of the collision at the intersection of West 3rd Street and Mahon Avenue at approximately 9:45 a.m. on June 30. Frontline officers, Metro Vancouver Transit Police and paramedics responded to the scene.
According to witnesses, the bus was travelling westbound on West 3rd Street when the driver experienced a medical emergency, causing the vehicle to collide with several parked cars and a tree. The bus was occupied at the time of the crash.
BC Emergency Health Services transported the driver to hospital, where they are receiving treatment. One passenger sustained minor injuries and was also taken to hospital. RCMP said no further details about the driver’s condition will be released, citing privacy.
“We are relieved that no passengers were seriously injured in this collision, and our thoughts are with the bus driver as they receive medical care,” said Cpl. Mansoor Sahak, media relations officer for the North Vancouver RCMP. “The RCMP is conducting a thorough investigation and working closely with partner agencies, including the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS), to determine the circumstances that led to this incident.”
