A 32-year-old North Vancouver man faces multiple charges after allegedly punching a jogger and attempting to assault a woman and her young child on Vancouver’s Cambie Bridge last Saturday morning, police say.
William Sadler has been charged with two counts of assault, one count of uttering threats and one count of resisting a peace officer, the Vancouver Police Department said. He remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
The incident unfolded at 10:50 a.m., when a VPD officer working on an unrelated investigation in the area noticed a man behaving erratically on the bridge, according to police. The officer then witnessed the alleged assault on the jogger and saw the man turn toward a woman and child, police said.
The officer activated the emergency lights and sirens to divert the suspect’s attention from the victims. The man tried to flee but was arrested a short distance away, at West 2nd Avenue and Yukon Street. No information has been released about injuries to the alleged victims.
