A North Vancouver man has been charged in connection with a March 2024 drive-thru collision that left a restaurant employee seriously injured.
On March 16, 2024, just after noon, North Vancouver RCMP responded to reports of a vehicle crashing into a restaurant on Marine Drive. Police allege the driver, George Collins of North Vancouver, struck the north wall of the building while going through the drive-thru. The impact caused a deep fryer inside the restaurant to shift, spilling hot oil on an employee working nearby. The worker sustained serious injuries as a result.
On January 28, 2025, the BC Prosecution Service formally charged Collins with driving without due care and attention.
“This incident had devastating consequences for the victim, and our thoughts remain with them as they continue their recovery,” said Constable Mansoor Sahak, media relations officer for North Vancouver RCMP.
As the case is now before the courts, police say no further details will be released.
Good! I hope that he has to pay damages to the victim now that he has been formally charged. These days, a lot of people who are driving should not be driving. Every day, my boyfriend who cycles from North Van to East Van to go to work says he is almost killed at least twice by bad drivers who do not seem to have ever read BC’s driving laws or taken a driver’s test. Worse, there are no lessons in BC’s Driving lessons as to how to share the road with cyclists! And the RCMP in regards to enforcing road laws? Where are they? I have never once seen an RCMP constable enforce a road law and give a ticket. Not once. In fact, I rarely see an RCMP constable on duty at any time, anywhere! Where are they?
In Canada there are 15 countries including our provinces that provide no road test or written test
requirements for drivers . This also works in our favour when travelling as we have the same advantage going to those countries. No fault insurance has been a nightmare for these involved in accidents. In my view we should take a serious look at both
