North Vancouver shooting was not random: Police

STAFF REPORT
October 1, 2020 2:39pm

North Van RCMP says the shooting that left one person dead in the Grand Boulevard area appears to be targeted.

“Based on the investigative theory in this initial phase, this does not appear to be a random act,” said Sgt. Peter DrVries of North Vancouver RCMP.

On September 30, at around 10:45 pm, North Vancouver RCMP received a report of multiple shots fired near the rear lane of the 200 block of East 17th Street.

When officers arrived, they found two adult victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims was transported to hospital, but later succumbed to their injuries.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called in, and they are now conducting the investigation in partnership with North Vancouver RCMP.

The area surrounding the scene will be cordoned off for a significant amount of time.

Police are currently gathering evidence and are requesting that anyone with information regarding this investigation call the IHIT Information Line at 1‐877‐551‐IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp‐grc.gc.ca.

Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1‐800‐222‐TIPS (8477).
