A North Vancouver volleyball coach is facing 10 criminal charges following an investigation into multiple reports of sexual assaults involving young athletes.
The BC Prosecution Service on July 2 formally charged Iraj Mozaffari of North Vancouver with three counts of sexual interference of a person under 16, two counts of touching a young person for a sexual purpose, and five counts of sexual assault. The alleged offences span an eight-year period, from January 2016 to December 2024.
The charges stem from an investigation that began on December 22, 2024, when North Vancouver RCMP received multiple reports that youths had allegedly been sexually assaulted by a coach while playing on a local volleyball team. Investigators interviewed multiple witnesses and victims before submitting a report to Crown counsel.
The court has issued publication bans protecting the identities of the victims.
“We understand that this news may be upsetting for members of the community and especially for the victims,” said Cpl. Mansoor Sahak of the North Vancouver RCMP. “We would like to thank those that came forward to provide statements. Without their courage, we would not be in the position we are in today.”
Sahak acknowledged the news may resurface past trauma for some, and urged anyone affected to seek support. The North Vancouver RCMP Victim Services Unit is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 604-969-7540.
“We want you to know we are here, we will listen and we will support you,” Sahak said.
