Hikers planning trips to Grouse Mountain should be aware of upcoming trail closures affecting both the BCMC Route and Grouse Grind Trail in the coming weeks.
The BCMC Route will experience a temporary closure on either Wednesday, October 2, or Thursday, October 3, as crews use a helicopter to remove construction materials from the area. The weather-dependent closure could occur anytime between 8 am and 4 pm that day.
The trail will reopen once the work is complete, and on-site signage will provide updates.
In addition, annual maintenance on the popular Grouse Grind Trail will begin on Monday, October 7, leading to a complete closure seven days a week. The trail will remain closed until Monday, November 4, pending favourable weather conditions. Due to the steep and hazardous terrain, no detours will be available, and hikers are urged to respect the closure for their safety.
For those seeking an alternative, the BCMC Route will remain open during the Grouse Grind’s closure. Though similar in length and elevation, the BCMC Route is less maintained and offers a more rustic hiking experience. Hikers are advised to wear sturdy footwear with ankle support, bring plenty of water, and pack extra layers in case of delays or cooler conditions.
