An off-duty West Vancouver police officer helped halt a suspected mail thief in North Vancouver on Monday, after recognizing the individual from an online community alert.

After seeing a social media post linking the person to recent mail thefts, the officer spotted the suspect near the Lower Lonsdale area. North Vancouver RCMP responded quickly and arrested the individual on the scene.
According to police, the suspect had several stolen mail items and credit cards. Officers also found out the individual had outstanding warrants. RCMP say the arrest may have prevented further thefts and are crediting the keen observation of the off-duty officer for the timely intervention.
