North Vancouver RCMP has recently issued a warning to the public regarding a traffic ticket scam that left a resident out of almost $5000. According to the police, the scam operates by sending a message to the unsuspecting victims with a link to a payment page for a traffic violation.
The police have advised the public to be cautious of any unsolicited messages that ask for personal and financial information, especially when it comes to traffic fines. The RCMP also emphasized that they would never send a text message requesting payments to settle a fine.
“Getting a ticket is bad, but providing your banking info to scammers is much worse!!,” North Van RCMP said in a tweet. The police have urged everyone to share this information with their family members.
This is not the first time that the public has been warned about this scam.
North Vancouver RCMP had previously issued a warning about this scam in a tweet, urging the public to be cautious and not fall prey to this fraudulent scheme. In light of this recent incident, the RCMP has reiterated its warning and is urging everyone to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. North Vancouver RCMP has advised the public to visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre website for more information on how to protect themselves from various frauds and scams.
