District of North Vancouver Councillor Catherine Pope has announced she will seek re-election in October’s municipal election.
In a news release, Pope said that she has built her council record on accountability and practical results, leading the call for a public inquiry and independent auditor into cost overruns at the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant and demanding fairness for local taxpayers and change at Metro Vancouver.
Pope also noted in the news release that she had advocated for affordable housing, helping bring new housing for seniors, low-income residents, women fleeing violence, and people experiencing homelessness, while supporting rental and non-market housing for students, the “missing middle,” working people and families. Her advocacy has helped deliver better transit service and safer, connected routes for people walking, riding, and scootering across the North Shore, the news release noted.
According to Pope, she remains committed to practical solutions on taxpayer protection, affordable housing, infrastructure, climate action, and parks and recreation to make North Vancouver a better place.
Pope is a former investigative journalist with two decades at Global TV who grew up on the North Shore and raised her family there. She has volunteered extensively with the Adoptive Families Association, Disability Foundation, and Victoria Foundation, and remains focused on building a family-friendly North Vancouver with safe mobility routes, parks, and recreation for residents of all ages, the news release noted.
