Vancouver Police have identified and charged a suspect in the assault of a 73-year-old man in Kitsilano, according to the news release by VPD.
The arrest came after members of the public reported multiple tips on Monday afternoon regarding a man matching the suspect’s description near West 4th Avenue and Vine Street. According to the news release, officers attended the area and arrested the man without incident. Constable Megan Lui thanked the public for the tips, which allowed police to quickly locate and arrest a suspect.
Paul Henry Desroches, 53, has been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm and remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
The assault occurred on July 31 near West Broadway and MacDonald Street, shortly before 4 p.m., when the 73-year-old man was allegedly assaulted after approaching a man who was yelling at passersby and asking him to stop and move along. The two became involved in a verbal altercation, during which the suspect allegedly pushed the victim to the ground, causing head injuries.
