Mayor Mark Sager announced today, July 6, that he will seek re-election as Mayor of West Vancouver in the upcoming 2026 municipal election, pledging to continue what he calls practical leadership and responsible growth for the District.
According to the news release, Sager was born and raised in West Vancouver and has spent decades in public service. Since returning as Mayor in 2022, he has focused on strengthening the District’s financial position, investing in parks and recreation, advancing housing and seniors’ care initiatives, improving transportation infrastructure, and protecting the natural environment.
Beyond his role as Mayor, Sager also serves as a Member of the Metro Governance Committee, Vice-Chair of the Metro Water Committee, Trustee of the Municipal Finance Authority, a Director on the Board of Metro Vancouver, and a member of the TransLink Mayors Committee.
“West Vancouver is one of the most beautiful and desirable communities in Canada, and I believe our best days are still ahead of us,” Sager said. “Over the past four years, we have made significant progress on projects that will benefit residents for generations. I am seeking re-election to continue that work and ensure we build a future that respects our history, protects our neighbourhoods, and enhances the quality of life for everyone who calls West Vancouver home.”
According to the news release, accomplishments from his current term include completion of the acquisition of the final waterfront properties on Argyle Avenue, approval of Cypress Village and the protection of Eagle Ridge, the opening of the Place for Sport and new pickleball facilities, and the revitalization of Horseshoe Bay Park.

The release also credits his term with approved plans for the Inglewood Care Centre, which includes 725 senior housing units and 364 long-term care beds, approval of 96 below-market rental units on the Fulton lands, and tax increases kept well below regional averages while generating investment income for the District.
Looking ahead, Sager identified completing the next phase of the Ambleside waterfront vision as his top priority for a second term.
“After more than 50 years of planning and discussion, West Vancouver now owns all of the waterfront properties necessary to finally realize the community’s vision for the Ambleside waterfront,” Sager said. “The next term presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to complete the Centennial Seawalk connection, enhance public access to the shoreline, and create a continuous waterfront experience that will serve residents and visitors for decades to come.”
According to the news release, additional priorities for a second term include changing how wastewater treatment costs are allocated across Metro Vancouver, maintaining strong financial management through responsible budgeting, and managing growth carefully through implementation of the Ambleside Local Area Plan while preserving neighbourhood character.
Other priorities listed in the release are expanding housing choices for seniors, families and future generations, advancing transportation improvements such as synchronized traffic signals, cycling connections and transit-on-demand initiatives, continuing investment in parks, recreation facilities, trails and public amenities, and protecting forests, shorelines and the natural environment through environmental stewardship initiatives.
“Residents expect their local government to focus on results, not rhetoric,” he said. “My commitment is to continue listening, planning, and working with the community to deliver projects that improve everyday life while preserving everything that makes West Vancouver special.”
