Several sailings on Horseshoe Bay-Nanaimo routes cancelled

Staff report
June 30, 2022 10:10am

Several sailings on the Horseshoe Bay-Nanaimo terminal have been cancelled because of mechanical issues with the Queen of Alberni.

In order to complete these and the earlier repairs to its main engine cylinder head and liner, the Queen of Alberni will remain out of service for Thursday, June 30th.

The following Queen of Alberni sailings on June 30, 2022 have been cancelled:
7:40 am out of Departure Bay
10:00 am out of Horseshoe Bay
12:25 pm out of Departure Bay
2:45 pm out of Horseshoe Bay
5:00 pm out of Departure Bay
7:20 pm out of Horseshoe Bay
9:30 pm out of Departure Bay
11:40 pm out of Horseshoe Bay

Other sailings on this route are expected to proceed as scheduled.

The repairs to the Queen of Alberni are significant, and with a number of tests and trials remaining to ensure it is ready to sail, there is a potential impact to service for Friday, July 1. If July 1 sailings are impacted, customers will be notified as soon as more information is available.

If you do not have a booking on this route for June 30, BC Ferries recommends making alternative travel plans either on a different route or as a foot passenger.

Though service is available between Vancouver Island and Metro Vancouver on the following routes, booking in advance is strongly recommended:

Vancouver (Tsawwassen) – Victoria (Swartz Bay)
Vancouver (Tsawwassen) – Duke Point (Nanaimo)

BC Ferries will contact customers with bookings on the cancelled sailings to let them know if they have space available to accommodate them on the next available sailing or if their booking must be cancelled.
