Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for North Shore, which is also in effect for Vancouver and other Metro Vancouver communities.
Snow is also expected Saturday night and Sunday morning for Vancouver Island, Sunshine Coast and Lower Mainland.
A ridge of high pressure over BC will give mainly clear skies and cool conditions until late Saturday.
A low pressure system will then move southward along the coast bringing cloud to the area Saturday afternoon.
Snow is forecast to begin Saturday night and continue into Sunday.
By Sunday afternoon snow will become mixed with rain in many areas.
Potential snowfall amounts vary from 2 to 5 cm for most of the Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast.
Eastern and inland areas of Vancouver Island are most likely to see the highest amounts of snow, with amounts from 5 to 15 cm.
