The BC SPCA is investigating the death of a young kitten found dead in an alleyway in the north end of Kelowna.
The kitten, who was less than six weeks old, was found with a rope around its neck in the area of Ponto Road and McIntosh Road.
“We received a call about this case this morning and the kitten’s body is now in our custody,” said Brian Kijowski, BC SPCA regional manager of cruelty investigations for the Interior/Okanagan.
“We will be sending the body for a necropsy to determine the cause of death. We are in the early stages of the investigation but we urge anyone with any information about this case to please call our provincial Call Centre at 1-855-622-7722.
Kelowna resident Julie Fidler spotted the dead cat while walking to the bus stop. The cat’s hair had also been burned. “I found this poor little thing in the alleyway between Ponto Road and McIntosh Road. As you can see it looks as if someone has tied a string around its neck and tacked it to a wall. This is beyond horrifying,” Fiddler wrote in a post she shared on Kelowna Alert page.
