Port Moody Police are investigating a bizarre overnight incident that resulted in a car submerged in Burrard Inlet.

On March 4, 2024, just before 10 p.m., officers responded to a report of a live-streaming video at Rocky Point boat launch, in which a man was allegedly being paid to drive his vehicle into the inlet. The vehicle was fully submerged in the water when police arrived. The 19-year-old driver was located at the scene and detained but later released from the scene. Criminal charges, including mischief and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, are being considered.

Police said the vehicle remained in the inlet as tow operators failed to remove the car. “Police are aware of videos of this incident circulating on social media. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the police,” Port Moody Police said in a media release.

A streamer named Adin Ross had claimed to CTV news that he paid the teen $30,000 US dollars to drive the car into the inlet. Const. Sam Zacharias of Port Moody police said someone could have been seriously hurt in this incident, and there would also be environmental impacts for this stunt.
