Criminal charges are being considered after West Vancouver police officers arrested a suspected drug trafficker during a recent traffic stop.
On September 21, at 9:20 pm, a West Vancouver Police officer conducted a vehicle stop near Capilano Road and Marine Drive and arrested the two occupants, a man and a woman, after they attempted to discard a knife and flee.
A search of the vehicle revealed nearly 60 grams of individually packaged illicit drugs, including suspected cocaine, fentanyl, and methamphetamine.
Officers also located over $4500 in cash, and various pieces of suspected stolen property including jewelry and credit cards.
“This was great proactive work by our officer,” says Cst. Kevin Goodmurphy. “Seizing any amount of illicit drugs from the street is a win for us.”
The 39-year-old man, a resident of Vancouver, was later released at scene without charges, pending consultation with B.C. Prosecution Services.
The 21-year-old woman, of no fixed address, was released at scene without charges.
Police are hoping that someone will recognize the suspected stolen jewelry that was recovered.
If anyone has information that may assist investigators, they are asked to contact the West Vancouver Police at 604-925-7300 re: file number 20-10604.
