Two men were arrested after attempting to break into a multi-unit residential building in the Lions Gate Bridge area this week, thanks to quick-thinking residents who reported the incident to police.
Officers arrived and located one of the suspects inside the building. The second suspect fled but was tracked down and arrested with the help of a police service dog.
This arrest followed a spate of break-ins in West Vancouver, including a separate incident in the Sentinel Hill area where suspects gained access to a home by climbing unsecured construction scaffolding left on the property. The suspects reached a second-floor balcony and entered through doors left open for ventilation. Another burglary occurred in the Dundarave neighbourhood, where suspects broke through a rear glass door, ransacked the home, and stole various items.
Police urge all residents to regularly check their security measures and ensure doors and windows are properly secured. Police also encourage residents to report any suspicious activity or individuals seen in their neighbourhoods.
In a separate case, West Vancouver police are investigating a “Bank Inspector Scam” that targeted a resident this week. The victim was contacted by a scammer posing as a bank security official and was instructed to transfer a large sum of money as part of a supposed security test.
Unfortunately, the transfer was completed before the victim realized it was a scam. Police remind the public that banks will never ask customers to transfer money as part of any security protocol and advise anyone receiving such calls to hang up and contact police immediately.
