Staff report
August 24, 2024 9:01am

Drivers are advised of overnight lane closures on the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Crossing from Sunday, Aug. 25, until overnight Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024.

For the safety of workers, single- and double-lane closures will be in place from 10 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. each night. Lanes will be closed in one direction each night, and during this time, at least one lane will remain open to traffic in that direction.

Over these five nights, crews will routinely inspect the bridge deck. Annual inspections of all ministry structures are required to ensure preventive maintenance and inform future rehabilitation programs.  Given the size of the bridge, five nights will be needed for a thorough inspection, according to a notice by the Ministry of Transportation.

Drivers can expect minor delays and are asked to use caution throughout the work zone.

There will also be construction and lane closures on the northbound section of Mountain Highway, between Oxford St. and Main St., beginning on Saturday, August 24 at 7 pm and ending on Monday, August 26 at 7 am.  The closure will be effective from 7 pm to 7 am on weekends and Mondays. Drivers should expect delays.

Tree pruning is scheduled between Exit 18 and 21 in the City of North Vancouver. The work will take place from 9 am to 3:30 pm on Tuesday, September 10. A detour will be in place for multi-use path bikes and pedestrians under the Lynn Valley bridge to accommodate the removal of a dead black cottonwood tree located south of the highway.

Can someone ask the contractor in charge of the second narrows bridge to clean along the median and the edges. The amount of rocks, sand and debris is dangerous when riding a motorcycle across the span.
