City of Vancouver is moving forward with efforts to land a Major League Baseball expansion franchise, confirming it will collaborate with The Show Vancouver Bid Corporation (TSV) on a potential bid.
According to the news release, Council directed staff in April 2026 to launch a Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEOI) process to identify a qualified proponent and ownership group to pursue an MLB franchise for the city. The City received TSV’s submission and evaluated it against the RFEOI’s qualification criteria, including financial capacity, relevant expertise, governance structure, and the group’s proposed approach.
Council has now directed staff to enter a Memorandum of Understanding with TSV, establishing a framework for collaboration that includes due diligence on potential ballpark sites. TSV will cover all costs and financial risks tied to preparing and advancing its bid.
No decisions have been made on a franchise, ballpark location or related development, according to the news release. Any future agreements, site selection, land use decisions, development approvals or lease arrangements would require separate Council approval.
