According to the news release by VPD, the incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. when an unidentified man approached the victim from behind on a silver bicycle and struck him with a hammer.

Police also received a report from a second person who said a suspect matching the same description threatened him with a hammer. No assault occurred in that incident, according to the news release.

The suspect is described as a white man in his late 40s with a grey buzz cut and facial stubble. He was last seen wearing a grey T-shirt, black pants, and black shoes while riding a silver bicycle.

According to the news release, investigators are asking anyone who witnessed either incident, has dash camera footage, or has information that could help identify the suspect to contact police.
