Vancouver police have arrested and charged a suspect following an unprovoked attack on a woman in the downtown core Wednesday morning.
According to the news release, the victim was walking to work near Robson Street and Homer Street shortly before 9:15 a.m. when she was assaulted by a stranger. She was allegedly choked, bitten on the face and hand, and pulled to the ground. The suspect fled the scene but was quickly located by police a block away, according to the news release.
“The suspect and victim did not know each other, and the assault was unprovoked,” said Constable Megan Lui. “The motive is unknown at this time.” The victim was transported to hospital for further medical treatment.
According to the news release, the B.C. Prosecution Service has charged 34-year-old Jayleen McKay with one count of assault causing bodily harm and one count of assault by choking. She remains in custody.
